How To Initiate Natural Weight Loss

April 24th, 2010

The most renowned or notorious country in the world for overweight and obese people is the United States of America. Regrettably, it has become one of the things that tourists first talk about, when they return from a holiday in the USA.

For instance, my father was a Second World War teenager and had always wanted to go to America. It was the first thing he did when he retired. Three months going wherever he could think of by bus and when he came back he was full of tales about whom he had met and what he had seen. but he could not hide his astonishment about how many really fat people there were there.

I believe the organizations who say that this is largely to do with Americans’ love of hamburgers, pizzas and doughnuts; foodstuffs that have only recently become popular in Europe. Great Britain was the first country to follow the American way, as you would imagine, because it was easier for the advertisers, both countries speaking English.

Sure enough, Britons are becoming obese at an disturbing rate too. Those adverts and trends are also visible in mainland Europe, but at least there are enough warnings now. Anybody who falls for into the junk food trap these days, only has himself to blame. We have been warned.

I now travel a lot in Asia and it is a crying shame to see rehashes of old adverts promoting junk food. For example, Thai food is one of the best in the world, yet Knorr is trying to persuade family cooks that they do not have time to make sauces or soups; that they should tip the salty contents of one of their boxes into boiling water and that nobody would know.

I can promise you that they would know where I live. However, firms like Knorr know, that if they can sabotage one generation then they have won. Likewise with McDonald’s, get one generation of parents to take their children there every week and it becomes a family tradition. Bang! They are in!

I saw it happen in the UK and it is so hard to see it happening in Asia too.

If you want to know the secret of losing weight naturally, I will tell you. The best of all methods is to only eat food that you have prepared yourself. There you are, easy! Or at least easily said. We can moderate that rule if necessary, to include food that has been prepared by people with your interests at heart, people who love you. You can also include good quality restaurants, but that is just about the limit.

Do not eat potato crisps or chips, shop-bought biscuits, cakes, pies, pasties, hamburgers or sandwiches. If you yearn for that stuff, then get up and cook it yourself! This is how to lose weight naturally. It is called eating well and people used to do it naturally because in those days, there were no fast food stores and people took home made sandwiches and salads to work or school.

April 17th, 2010

Bowling is a sport that can become quite emotional and because of that, it can also be used to relieve stress and tension. It is a good way to let off steam for people who lead a stressful life and have a high pressured job. Aside from these benefits, bowling can be a useful element in your weight loss program.

After all, you get to move a lot of your body muscles in bowling. It keeps you physically active, so you burn calories as well. Therefore, not only are you getting some physical activity, but you will be getting rid of some excess fat too. It will help keep your back, leg and arm joints supple, particularly if you are over 50.

If you take part in this game, you will be almost guaranteed to keep your body in top condition. Depending on how much weight you have to lose and how frequently you play bowls, you may be able to give up your other weight management exercises.

That would suit most dieters as it is the exercising that bothers most people. It would also save you money as you will not have to pay to use a fitness center and buy work out clothes and track suits. The best thing to do would probably be to join a neighborhood team. These teams usually have local competitions, so you might be required to play twice a week.

The weight control advantages of bowling fall into the following categories.

Light muscle toning is achieved by normal bowling actions like walking, bending and swinging your arm in order to roll the ball. This is just like when you exercise by walking, which is one of the best physical exercises. Bending and swinging your arm to bowl is also good for your joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Moreover, it also promotes good blood circulation. So, overall, bowling is a fun way of exercising and losing weight in the process.

Mild fat burning will be achieved by the actions of walking, flexing, stretching, and swinging. If you play often you will be losing weight on a regular basis too. It can be extended by walking to and from the venue of parking your car half a mile away from the club. Walk up and down any stairs involved, do not take the lift

Depression can be avoided by mixing with your friends and fellow team members. Many dieters do become depressed when dieting. This can be for several reasons. Your weight loss might be slower than you hoped for or it could be chemical. A sudden drop in calories could leave you feeling down.

Bowling can assist here by helping you build friendships. You get to create good social relationships, which are known to promote better heart performance and good heart performance is a good match with weight loss or control.

So, you see, bowling is not just a great, fun game, it also helps build strength and helps you expend energy, which means calories, and gives you some exercise that you would not otherwise have had.

Acne Scars

April 17th, 2010

Acne scars are a sad memento of the having suffered pimples or even acne. They are intolerable because of their seeming permanence and their non-complimentary look. Generally speaking, acne scars are rather difficult to treat, but tissue regeneration is not impossible these days with all the fantastic technological developments.

In general terms, by acne scarring, we mean the healed lesions caused by an acne breakout. While most scarring is temporary and will probably disappear naturally in time, scars from the more severe forms of acne can become permanent.

Acne scars may be avoided if the sufferer visits dermatologist when the acne scarring is in an incipient stage, especially if nodules or cysts accompany the red pustules on the skin’s surface. If the breakouts of acne have marked your skin, you will have to approach the problem from another perspective, which usually means surgery.

Laser resurfacing is one way of removing the damaged skin areas and stimulating the natural regeneration of the tissue underneath. This operation only requires local anaesthetic and can take between several minutes and an hour depending on the amount of the damage.

Fractional laser therapy is one of the most recent methods of removing acne scars. It involves surgical intervention at deep skin layers. The treatment is superior to both dermabrasion and laser resurfacing in terms of quality and involves a very reduced healing period. Nevertheless, fractional laser therapy remains within the reach of only those few fortunate people, who can pay for it, since it is the most expensive acne treatment available these days.

It can be that further sessions are necessary to improve the condition of the superficial layers of skin, before they can start the deep level treatment of the acne scar. The doctor may inject collagen into the scarring in order to raise the normal skin level or she/he may suggest micro-dermabrasion for the same purpose. Trying to perform chemical peels for acne treatment at home is a bad idea given the risk of aggravating the condition by irritating the scars even more.

As for the forms of acne scars, they can be grouped by the way they look. Scars can result because of an increase of tissue or due to a loss of tissue They both have an adverse impact on the way the face looks. Specialists’ evaluation of the nature of the scars is an extremely important factor in deciding on the selection of one form of therapy or the other.

The Traditional Use Of Dairy Produce: Part 2 – Cheese

April 6th, 2010

About The Basic Preparation Of Foodstuffs: Dairy Products.

HARD AND SOFT CHEESES

Cheese is made from milk which has been naturally or artificially soured. The former method is brought about by standing the milk in a warm place and allowing natural, friendly bacteria to turn the milk’s natural sugars into lactic acid. The latter method is effected by adding an enzyme, usually in to form of rennet.

Salt and colouring and frequently put in too. The whey is then allowed to drain away and the curds are pressed into moulds where they are kept until ripened or cured. Some cheeses, usually hard ones, are subjected to pressure; soft cheeses are not. Curds are ripened or cured by various means. The way it’s done, the quality of the milk, the breed of cow, sheep or other animal and its pasture, and the type of bacteria all govern the end result.

Some local conditions are unique and those areas produce cheeses that are not successfully reproduced elsewhere: for example Gruyere and Camembert, although factories do try. They even have some success, as most of the world’s Cheddar cheese now comes from the USA and Canada.

The constituent parts of cheese are roughly: 33% fat, 33% protein and 33% water with salt, colouring, sugar etc making up the other 1%. These proportions do vary from area to area as some manufacturers use full cream milk, others skimmed milk and yet others add extra cream. Yet others add extra sugar, although most do not. All cheeses have a high calcium content and can be considered ‘concentrated milk’ and stored in the same way.

Many people say that cheese should not be kept in a fridge and while storing in water, as for milk, is not an option, a cool larder is ideal. Try the traditional method of hanging it up in cheesecloth in a cool, airy place. If the weather is hot, dampen the cloth with water to which a little vinegar has been added.

Cheese is often served in Europe with a salad or/and bread and is often dished up after or instead of the dessert. Hard cheese can be nigh-on impossible for children to digest and grating it first will make it more palatable to them. Once grated the cheese can be scattered on vegetable or fish soups or sauces; added to egg, pasta, rice and oatmeal dishes; put on baked potatoes or pastry; toasted on bread or put in salads and sandwiches.

How To Cook Cheese: A not well known fact is that a lot of people find cooked cheese practically indigestible and the reason lies in its make-up. This is why: cooked starch can be digested by the saliva in the mouth, but other foods must pass to the stomach or intestines for this process to be completed. They are, however, broken up in the mouth. Digestion of protein begins in the stomach and is completed in the small intestine, while fat is not rendered soluble until it reaches the small intestine.

Cheese has a high fat and protein content, but in melting, the fat frequently covers the protein and stops the digestive juices reaching it in the stomach. Therefore, its digestion is delayed until the fat has been absorbed by the intestines. Cheese can be made more digestible in the following way:

1] Adding to or combining with starchy foods. The starch will absorb the fat, not allowing it to cover the protein.

2] Using seasoning – Cayenne Pepper or mustard will irritate the intestinal lining, thus causing extra digestive juices to be released.

3] Cooking rapidly at high temperature. This stops the protein from becoming tough and stringy and so, harder to digest or you could add cheese to sauces late in the process.

4] Adding alkali. A large pinch of Bicarbonate of Soda per 75g will help neutralize the fatty acids and make the proteins more easily digestible.

What Is Involved In A Gastrectomy Surgery

April 3rd, 2010

Vertical sleeve gastrectomy, also known as vertical sleeve gastrectomy continues to be employed by bariatric doctors as a favored surgical intervention for severely obese patients. The concept in vertical sleeve gastrectomy is to physically reduce the volume of the stomach pouch, consequently lowering cravings for excess food. Patients encounter a wide range of outcomes, but nearly all have a dramatic shift in weight loss.

Recently however, perspective on gastric sleeve surgery has evolved which makes it a personal choice. It had been discovered to be effective enough that it does not require follow-up surgical procedures to allow it to be successful. Desired weight level may be accomplished with sleeve surgery alone.

Complications can arise in all surgeries. It’s actually merely dependent on identifying and averting the complications which your surgeon will explain during the pre-operative appointments. The most frequent issues are internal bleeding and gastric leaking but operative strategies are developed to prevent these tendencies.

Gastric sleeve is not a malabsorption approach. Alternatively, it is solely a restrictive solution and brings weight loss by reducing the volume of meals that you are able to consume. Due to the fact that this surgery is definitely a restrictive means, weight loss happens at a slower rate as compared to that of a gastric bypass treatment. Although final results come slower, risks present in treatments like those of bypass treatment are taken away making gastric sleeve still a far better option.

Considering the overall picture of bariatric surgery, gastric sleeve is considered the middle ground of gastric band and gastric bypass. Therefore, this technique can be a very good choice for individuals who, in any way, could not undergo a gastric bypass which often could possibly be the step to slimming down and changing their health status and existence in a larger sense.
